Construction during the ancient times was done in a total different way as compared to now. Historians believe that construction began in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia hence became a staple of Civilization. Construction was first done for the provision of shelter and at the time the structures built were temporary due to the materials used.
Materials such as leaves, mud, animal bones among others were used; that’s the buildings were not long lasting as compared to now. One of the earliest structures built were “Megaliths.”They were used as tombs, celestial observatories, shelter and territorial landmarks. The structures are now historical sites and can be found in Ireland, England, Germany etc.
On the other hand, Mesopotamia recorded the earliest forms of civilization which dates back to 2000 BCE. Grand temples made of sun baked bricks were built at that time, an example being Uruk’s white temple.

In ancient Egypt, the earliest structures built were the pyramids. They were built of limestone, granite, basalt, gypsum and baked bricks which is a wonder of the world today as the pyramids still exists and are in good shape.
In Kenya there are also ancient structures that exist till date such as Fort Jesus and Vasco Da Gama Pillar. Some Kenyan communities also construct shelter in an ancient manner by using mud, bamboo, dry grass, wood, clay and mud among others. These structures are mostly found in the rural areas.
